Ferry Road improvements for ‘A Safer Route to School’

The first set of street design improvements have been installed along Ferry Road in Stromness, as part of the ‘A Safer Route to School’ project.

Local community organisations and Stromness Primary School’s Pupil Council visited the new infrastructure on Tuesday at a celebration event.

The event recognised attendees’ valuable contributions to the project so far, which has been led by Walk Wheel Cycle Trust in partnership with Orkney Islands Council.

‘A Safer Route to School’ seeks to create a more accessible and welcoming Ferry Road where everyone can make safe, enjoyable local journeys on foot or on wheels.

The project has been championed by the Pupil Council and local organisations (including the Parent Council), who have all played a central role in shaping new concept designs for a waterfront that reflects the unique character and identity of Stromness.

Bingo night raises £2300

The bingo night run by the Parent Council last Friday was a huge success, raising £2300 for the school! Over 100 folk packed the school hall for a fun night of bingo, raffle and supper. With the absence of the winter fair this year the bingo was the main Parent Council fundraiser. The money will go towards improvements to the playground and the school library upgrade.

The Parent Council thanks all those who came along on the night, the parents who helped with supper and prizes, local businesses for donating generous prizes and staff at the school for all their help.

P7 Children in Need

We are very proud of our P7 class who led the funding raising for Children in Need this year. They undertook an enterprise project which resulted in fantastic jewellery and keyrings and they led a bake sale, bric a brac sale, face painting, beat the goalie and a book sale.

The grand total for SPS this year was £1333.34. Which is the most we have ever raised. A fantastic amount. P7 would like to thank all the children and parents for all their donations. They would also like to thank all the SPS staff for all their support.

Well done to the whole school community, what a fabulous achievement!
